The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series, Book 1)

This extremely awesome book is about twelve year old Percy Jackson whose father left him as a boy with his mother. Percy never really thought of his father much because his mom is with a smelly guy named Gabe. Percy is a troubled kid who has dyslexia and ADHD, and had gotten kicked out of many schools. He has thought his life was completely normal, but as you know in books it really isn't. 

The mystery of Percy's father and his dyslexia and ADHD are all clues to something rare, special and life threatening.
